To show you just how affordable Amtrak can be, I did some checking around on their website. If you wanted to come into the city for a couple of days to attend the San Francisco Crab & Wine Marketplace (February 28th and 29th), you could get round trip tickets for $36 from Sacramento and $96 from Los Angeles.
